Contribution toward climate protection

Climate protection projects are a key component in efforts to achieve global climate protection targets. Until such time as the University of Bern is able to sufficiently reduce its emissions, it will make a positive contribution toward climate protection in an amount that is equal to its unavoidable emissions. A mix of measures is planned that consists of both the purchase of CO2 certificates as well as other alternative options for climate protection commitment and environmental protection contributions (e.g. projects in connection with Engaged UniBE, idea competitions). A imputation in the greenhouse gas balance is not planned. Rather, it is about taking responsibility for one's own emissions and making a positive contribution to climate protection. In the long term, C-sink projects and/or negative emission technologies will play a growing role since the only way to permanently cancel out any unavoidable emissions is by sequestering CO2eq from the atmosphere.
