“With the Climate Roadmap 2030, we are taking responsibility and setting ambitious targets. We do not simply want to support climate action; we want to actively drive it forward – in an innovative, impact-driven way and with a clear commitment to a sustainable future.”
Prof. Dr. Heike Mayer, Vice-Rector Quality and Sustainable Development, Professor of Economic Geography
The University of Bern views climate change as one of the major societal challenges of our time. The University is one of the world’s leading institutions in research on climate change, biodiversity, and land use, and has done pioneering work in these fields. As an institution, it takes its climate responsibility seriously and is continuously working to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in order to achieve the net-zero target. In recent years, it has implemented substantial measures, particularly in the areas of energy supply, mobility, and operations. At the same time, sustainability has systematically been strengthened in teaching and research and is anchored as a strategic cross-cutting theme.
